At Cape Hatteras Elementary, advanced learners receive specialized support from a licensed gifted teacher. For students in grades K-2, Talent Development groups—often referred to as nurturing pools—offer enrichment activities designed to enhance critical thinking skills and extend core instruction for those demonstrating gifted potential. These groups encourage students to engage in activities that spark curiosity, improve problem-solving skills, and promote creativity.
For students in grades 3-5, we implement content replacement in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math to accelerate learning and provide challenges beyond the standard curriculum. In this approach, identified students are exposed to advanced content and learning experiences that surpass typical classroom materials. Within these groups, some students are still nurtured with the aim of qualifying them through qualitative data.
